Welcome to Fulfilled Within Podcast. I'm Gaby, and I'm the host of this podcast. In today's episode, I'm going to talk about what you need to do before you can start finding your purpose.
Many people want to find their purpose, but what they don't realise is that before you can find your purpose, you need to know yourself. And by knowing yourself, I mean not in the sense of knowing your favourite colour, your MBTI, or your hobbies, although that can be helpful. But I mean, knowing yourself in the sense of knowing your wounds, your origin story, what you have overcome in life, the areas that you have had a lot of life experience in, and similar.
And so this concept of knowing yourself is in a way that is deeper than the superficial things that you do know about yourself. And to know yourself deeply in this way, it requires much more than a superficial approach. It requires a more in-depth thinking, reflection, and coming to terms with your own past.
One of the ways to know yourself deeply is through journalling. Journalling helps you untangle your thoughts and find some sort of clarity on paper. But I would say there is a limit to where journalling can take you, because it's hard to hold your deepest wounds on your own.
There is this saying that goes something like, you get hurt in relationships and you heal through relationships. And one of the ways that you can heal through relationships is through experiencing a different kind of relationship compared to the one that wounds you in the past. Now, one of the ways of being in that relationship is by going to therapy.
Therapy gives you a safe space to process the deep wounds that have hurt you in the past, while being accompanied by someone else who can hold the depth of your experience alongside yourself. And that's one example of a safe space where you can deeply get to know yourself.
And so that's why therapy can be helpful as a stepping stone in finding your purpose. Because ultimately, therapy is about deeply knowing yourself in the presence of another who can hold you through the depths of your being, of your experience.
And so, that's one of the things I offer, which is therapy, as one step in getting you closer to your purpose. This is very much in the realm of my specialty, because I specialise in assisting adults who are looking to find more meaning and fulfillment in their career and life, young adults who are looking to study in a more aligned degree or major, as well as teenagers who want to know what to do after high school. All of these are very much in the realm of helping people find their own purpose. And the way I guide them is through therapy.
